Class 6

Thank you all,

I heard from almost everyone by now and it looks like you all have the capabilities to view each others movies at locations other than the lab at Monty Tech. This assignment was essentially a dry run for our 6th class which will run on April 17th.

My thought is that rather than trying to get you all together simultaneously in my virtual office at TappedIn, it's going to be more effective that you view the class through this blog. In that way, wherever you choose to be during vacation, you can accomplish everything you need to at your convenience. More importantly, this venue will allow each of you to concentrate on the work of your colleagues, in a quiet and thoughtful manner without the clutter that usually occurs in a chat window.

I will post all the finished movies to the same relative location as the sample movies that you viewed last week as soon as I can.


*Assignment:

  • Please complete this assignment prior to April 21st. That way I'll be able to view everything on the blog and prepare my own comments as well as get ready for class 7. Thank you.
  • Please view each of your other class members during the week of April 17th by clicking on the link with their names below. Presently you'll see placeholders for each one of you by last name. The links will be blind until you all give me your movies, I get to post them to MEC's Webspace, and activate them. When you come in later this week, you'll know when the links become active by their color and underlining.
  • Remark on each one using the comments component of our blog. I will create a series of blank comments (placeholders) for each of you so that the other can have their say keeping all under each of your names.
  • That way each commenter can easily keep track of their viewing/commenting progress and each contributor will be able to see all the comments written about their movie.
  • My philosophy regarding criticism, is to ALWAYS keep it as positive as possible. Each of you will move to improve what you've done as you glean ideas from what others have done. That's the purpose of this viewing/commenting exercise and why it was included in the syllabus.
  • Please remember that we all come to these classes with different strengths and skills and that none of you (save possibly one) was familiar with Windows Live Movie Maker prior to this course.


My plan is to be in my virtual office holding office hours during our regular class time, 4:00 pm to 7:45 pm on April 18th, in case any of you have trouble with the assignment or wish to discuss any other class related issues. It is not necessary or otherwise a requirement that you visit me there during that time. I offer it as a matter of convenience to you. You can also call me during that time just in case either of us has trouble accessing TappedIn. I will email you my cell number as well as the land line (better for reception) I will be closest to during that time.

    1. Rose I Loved your movie, the way you applied Math to the building, the pitches and slopes. The many lessons shown by both students and teachers. There was a little too much back round noise, therefore leaving it hard to hear the students and teacher talking.

      It was a fun learning experience and I want to do more with this movie maker and math.
      Is there any way to increase the audio for some clips so that they are all the same volume?

    4. Great job. You not only tied in more than one trade you showed how the students use angles in everyday life was really nice. I don't think that when they are running up and down the stairs that they take into account someone had to figure out the pitch. Good job.

    6. Rose, this is such a great example for the math classes, especially right now because a lot of them are working on slope. I really like that it answers kids' questions of: "When are we ever going to use this?" One thing I thought was good for clarification was when you used text to say that pitch was slope when it was being discussed.

      I really enjoyed how you combined elements of the school with the information presented. The speakers all did a great job, and it was wonderful to see the kids participate. The audio needs fixing, but that seems to be minimal overall. I liked how you framed your shots and the perspective was simple, focused and clean. Nicely done!

    4. AnnMarie, the lightening bolt was a cool effect...how did you do that? Excellent job presenting all of the facets of creating a stimulating environment for kids. Loved the pictures and the song definitely went along with the goal of the movie:) The text on some of the slides was hard to read...I had the same problem when making mine, I wonder if Eric or anyone else knows of a way to put the text in a solid color text box so it will stand out from the background picture...anyone??Excellent job!

    6. It was fun to watch and I loved the pictures with the little ones. It gave a clear picture and guidelines for an excellent learning environment. I noticed some of the pictures and words were a little fuzzy, not sure why. I opened this on my PC but it took over an hour.

I could not open on my PC but I saw the finished version last week, so let me comment......I thought that it gave a great introduction into all the things to consider in what a good learning environment for children looks like. I think sometimes too many think it just play time and do not appreciate the thought and planning that is part of creating a great environment for young children!!! Can not wait to see it used in shop!! Well done!

    13. First download took 15 min. Noticed it's a .dv if that helps. I remember Marlo Thomas producing Free to Be... You and Me in the early '70s! If you set your pix to fit the soundtrack, you might want to double it so people can read and see the pictures longer to enjoy your details. Nice work!

      So cute! :) I could picture every part of the MT Childcare Center with these areas. Makes total sense now! LOL
      If possible, can the text be made a bit bolder? It seemed to be a bit fuzzy. Song was a nice choice. Supports the visual without taking over and interfering with the reading of the text.

Kim, I loved the mood of each "hair era" conveyed by the pictures and music combo.Fantastic job!It brought me back to the days of straightening my hair with GIANT juice can rollers every night...ouch!!!As I was watching,I was thinking it would be funny to include a mystery faculty member's picture from an old year book and have the kids guess who it is...just a thought:).

I loved the 50's styles! well researched and presented movie on the styles that were predominate for each decade. I think you were a fan of the band poison?

    3. I enjoyed your video. It was a fun look at hair over the decades and the music was perfect. You had a great range of photos that truly gave a definite feel for each decade. The 80's were a lot of work for me with those BIG hair styles, I actually had long hair back then. Great job.

OK I have a few things to say 1st I did iron my hair, 2nd I slept in orange juice cans for rollers, 3rd I knew most of those people in that clip and last Poison was my daughters first concert EVER and she was 12 now she is 34! In LOVED that video it brought back some great memories for me but I can tell you that I'm not wearing shoulder pads again EVER!!!

    10. This is so much more than an intro. Your students won't realize how many times they'll change over the years and hair/fashion in a picture captures that moment in time. I wanted the 10 points for Poison! Good consistent use with the text expanding forward.

      So fun to watch this. The music was great and supported it well. I agree with DonnaLee that if a few faculty pics could be put in that would be fun! The memories this brings back! Wow. The pace was good, you might even be able to speed up the slide speed just a touch. History of Hair...who knew!

    1. Love the implementation of comics to Novels. How to use a graphic novel within the classroom. Catering the books to each students reading level. How to introduce these books to students and how to have them reiterate the story in their own version, then create their own novel. Love it!

    3. This would be awesome for many of our students. This was very informative and gives great tips on using graphic novels with students. Creating their own graphic novel would be a great project, just have Jonathan close by!

    4. I think that this is a great idea, my youngest had so much trouble reading in school and I asked if he would be able to read comic books and back then it was always no. I think that if he would have been allowed to do this or to read car engine "how to" books it would have helped. One question, is this for one on one or do you do this with the whole class? great job enjoyed the music and the way that you put in a video

    8. I like the idea of incorporating graphic novels into literature. I've done that in some reading classes I used to teach and it appealed to a lot of kids. The video was great and I liked that you were able to add the YouTube clip as well.

    11. my original video was too large to email and I made this one short enought to be able to send (due to our limitations of 10k file size) I will be glad to show my full length version in class one nite. I took a powerpoint presentation and altered it to make it a video with sound, pictures and a video of the chairs being tested in the weight room. The winning chairs held over 700 lbs and weigh less than 4 lbs. My students look forward to this sophomore level design project.

Good job on presenting your topic of child raising and how teen pregnancy can be very difficult. the babies that the kids carry around are a great reminder of what it is like to have a real baby. Do the students have to keep the baby for only 4 days? i bet the journals are interesting and informitive.
